Originally published in 1922, after the defeat of the German Empire, War as an Inner Experience ( Der Kampf als inneres Erlebnis ) is Ernst Jnger's second book, where he analyzes his experiences of the First World War in an abstract and reflective way. Written in touching, poetic prose, Jnger describes the material and spiritual consequences of the war, allowing us to understand the horror of trench warfare in its many facets.
