"Dr. Spencer Brownfield, an elderly, disgraced former professor, believes that for thirty years he has been the sole person standing between New York City and complete cataclysmic collapse via his ''adjustments'' - tiny, Butterfly-Effect-like changes he makes to the city. Now, though, he is dying, and disaster looms over New York. Enter Heller Wilson, a brilliant mathematics student, who discovers the theories of this ailing, perhaps insane, genius. Can Wilson take what little he''s learned and save the city in time?" -- page [4] of cover.
Wonderful, mind-expanding stuff, and well written too.-- The Guardian Axiomatic is a wonderful collection of eighteen short stories by Hugo Award-winning author Greg Egan. The stories in this collection have appeared in such science fiction magazines as Interzone and Asimov's between 1989 and 1992.
